Adopt A Dog

Policies and Procedures - Please read before applying.

PLEASE NOTE:  There is no charge to apply to foster or adopt a dog.

Adoption Donations are NON-REFUNDABLE – NO EXCEPTIONS - PLEASE DON"T ASK.

Please fill out your application completely as we need to know as much about you as possible before we consider allowing you to foster or adopt one of our dogs. The information you provide will help us determine the best possible match for you, as well as for the dog. If you do not fill out the application in FULL, or are not 100% truthful, your application will be discarded without further notice. If a question does not apply to you, fill in the blank with “Not Applicable” or “N/A”.

  • Applicants should be at least 24 years old or older. We take each application on a per case basis. If you meet all of our other criteria, but are not yet 24 years old, we will process your application to see if we may still have a match for your family.

  • Please read our  Adoption Contract carefully and make sure you understand it, and will be able to comply.

  • Most of our volunteers and foster families work full time, have families and have pets of their own, so please be patient. We will get back to you as soon as possible!

  • We require that all animals in the prospective adoptive family be fully vetted. We feel that “responsible” pet owners fit in this category.

  • We prefer homes with fenced yards. We take each application on a per case basis. If you meet all of our other criteria, but don’t have a fenced yard, we will process your application to see if we may still have a match for your family. You must have a plan in place for exercise/potty needs of the adopted dog.

  • We do not reserve dogs. Even if you seem like the perfect match for a particular dog, we will not hold a dog in a foster home to wait for you to make up your mind, get back from a vacation, etc. This is not fair to the dog, to the foster home, or to another needy dog waiting to come into rescue.

  • We recommend that you get approved before you see a dog you want so that when the right match comes along, you will be ready.

  • Folks in their 60's to 80's are all different, as are their lifestyles, health and activity levels. Generally speaking, however, we prefer not to place very puppies or young dogs with seniors. We ask that you seriously consider the dog's needs and be realistic as to how well you are able to fulfill them. Please give thought to any physical challenges, as well as your ability to accommodate the dog's need for housebreaking, exercise, training and socialization. What might have worked very well in the past may not be quite the same now. Life changes occur more frequently as we age. Keeping the dog's best interest in mind usually results in a successful placement. The majority of puppies and young dogs require more than just walks in the neighborhood. Mature dogs, however, might be more closely matched to your activity level and schedules along with less disruption to your routine which generally equates to a happier owner and dog.

  • Keep in mind: Rescue dogs need and deserve your patience, whether it be house training, getting along with the other pets or just settling in. Be prepared as they will need time to adjust to your home and family.

**IMPORTANT**

If you are going on vacation or moving, please submit your adoption application AFTER YOU RETURN or after you are settled into your new home.  We are not able to house dogs until you return, that takes up space where another life could be saved.  Average process time for an adoption application is roughly 1 to 7 days.  If you are approved, we will contact you to discuss a meeting time and day.
